This Week's Highlights

Thank you to families for coming to conferences on Thursday and Friday to celebrate student achievement and gain greater insights into our days at school.
Please note the invitation in the weekly update to parents for morning coffee at the school over the next few months. There is no formal programming but rather an opportunity for us to show gratitude to our parent community and provide a venue for parents to connect with one another. We hope to see you there.
Term 2 Electives begin on Tuesday.
We thank our librarian, Ms. Coetzee, for organizing the scholastic book fair. Thank you to the parents who volunteered and for those who supported this fundraiser for the library.
The winter break is a perfect time to cosy up with a book and the library blog has been updated for December. Check out the new titles in the library for all grades, young adult readers, and non-fiction. There are also new recommended reading pages for sports fans, and for those readers looking for a winter read. https://connectcharter.ca/library-portal/library-blog/
Our last week of school before the break is dynamic and meaningful with the annual Peace Festival. This year's Peace Festival's theme is: When we come together as a community we THRIVE. Peace Festival includes opportunities for students to engage in community-building activities, including a speaker series, collaborative art projects and creative challenges, skating (weather permitting), and student-led daily announcements that emphasize gratitude, peace and kindness.
This week, our grade 4-6 teachers will be engaging in the new math curriculum professional development series. Support of the incoming curriculum has been ongoing to support a smooth transition for students and to build a strong capacity in our teachers.
A component of the Mental Wellness Grant work is to engage a second school in a parallel program. Calgary Arts Academy has been engaging in Thrive Days at the Field Experience Centre. Connect Charter School is proud to share our understanding of the impact that outdoor learning can have on wellness, curricular connections and student confidence. We are eager to bring these initiatives to more teachers and students by sharing with other school jurisdictions.

Seasons Greetings,

Our Winter Concert is Thursday, December 14, 6:30pm, in the school gym.

Performances will be from various school ensembles and students including Gr. 6/7
Beginning Band Elective, Grades 4, 5, 6 Music classes as well as various soloists
from the school. Students should arrive at the school no later than 6:00PM to get their
instruments ready to perform. The running time of this concert is approximately 60
minutes.
We welcome our pre-service teacher Ms. Hammond from the University of Calgary
completing her practicum who has been working with your child in the music room
this term. We have all music posted in Seesaw for students to practice at home.

What to wear

Performers are to dress up in holiday spirited seasonal attire such as a tie or Santa
hat etc. for the concert . Students will report to their homeroom when arriving at the
school. Band elective students will report to he music room to setup their instrument
and get tuned and warmed up.

Donations

Donations accepted either with a non-perishable food item for the Food Bank or a
monetary donation. Both of these options will assist the community during the holiday
season. When you arrive at the concert, please bring your Food Bank donations to
the IAC to make your donation. Space is limited so we have two seats for family
members per student performer.

Seating

If you require more than 2 seats please email Mr.
Bolen so we have approx. numbers to attempt to have enough seats everyone.
Students unable to attend the concert need to have parent email Mr. Bolen.
