Important Updates

A reminder that Friday, October 31st is a PD Day. Connect Charter is hosting an city-wide Education Assistant symposium while hosting PD for teachers.
Thanks to the volunteers who take in the many Healthy Hunger orders and distribute them to our students.
Our first Spirit Week happens next week. The theme days are:
Monday, Oct. 27th - PJ Day
Tuesday, Oct. 28th - Fancy Pants Day
Wednesday, Oct. 29th - Match Day
Thursday, Oct. 30 - Costume Day
It's been a lovely return after fall break! Usually at this time, we are putting out emails about proper clothing for colder weather. We do expect some colder temperatures at some point. Please check to see if your child's outdoor essentials still fit. If any families need support to acquire these items for the upcoming winter, please reach out to the office or principal.
Please note that the Movie Night has been rescheduled to November 27th. Watch for more details about this night and what the parent learning sessions will be about!
Fun Lunch- Subway - Tuesday, October 2
School Council & Parent Society meeting - online Tuesday, October 28⋅6:30 – 7:30pm. The link will be shared with families on the day of the meeting.
Fun Lunch - Opa - Thursday, October 30
Grade 7's will be checking out geological formations at the Paskapoo Slopes on Thursday, October 30. Note: 7.1/7.3 will be at the slopes in the morning 7.2/7.4 will be at the slopes in the afternoon.
We continue to work hard to fundraise for the playground project. See updated details below.
Grade 7 classes will be working with the Bow Habitat station to raise Rainbow Trout. We are asking families if they have any of the aquarium items to support with the project - see the information below for more details.

We’ll Build This Together
Our campaign isn’t just about raising funds—it’s also about rolling up our sleeves when the time comes!

When it’s time to build, there will be opportunities to volunteer with:

Temporary site fencing
Removing and disposing fencing, old surfacing & old playground
Site preparation and landscaping
Helping assemble the new playground

We’ll be working with a trusted company to ensure safety and quality, but community hands will help bring the playground to life. Please let us know if you will be able to help with any of the above by emailing andrea.friesen@connectcharter.ca.

Just $200 per student would raise $120,000 for the new playground!

Dear Parents,

This year in Outdoor Education, grade 7 classes will be working with the Bow Habitat station to raise Rainbow Trout. The eggs will arrive in January 2026, and will be cared for by students until their release in an approved Alberta lake in the spring. The trout will be located in the Science lab, as such all students will have a chance to observe their lifecycle from egg to fry.

To be prepared for the arrival of the eggs Mr. Cadman will need to obtain equipment for this project. In order to reduce costs, we are hoping that members of the Connect community might first see if they currently have any of the following equipment at home, possibly not in use, and might consider lending or donating it to the program (See Below). Aquarium

Glass aquarium that can hold 28 to 30 gallons of water.

Chiller

Should be able to process your 30 GAL tank with a temperature between 8-10 degrees Celsius (46˚F to 50˚F).

Aerator

AquaClear Powerhead 30. Creates an airflow at the surface of the water and mimics the current of a river.

Underground Gravel Filter

The Underground Gravel Filter needs to fit your tank and have two tube attachments that connect to your powerhead and filter. It can be a bit smaller than your tank floor and still function properly. Ideally, 60% or more of the tank floor is covered.

Fluval Filter 307

The volume capacity of the Fluval Filter must be able to manage the volume of the Aquarium tank. Fluval Filter includes Rim Connectors, Outflow Strainer, Ribbed/Corrugated Hose, Suction Cups, and Rubber Tube Ends.

Incubation Basket

Floating fish hatchery. Model, Marina 2-in-1 Fish Hatchery.

Floating Thermometer

Any type of floating thermometer will do.

Gravel or Granite Grit

Size: Approximately 10 kg (22-25 lb)

Gravel can be reused for up to 4 seasons.

If you use granite (size 1 or 2), it must be thrown out after a season of use.

Fish Net

Any small aquarium mesh fish net will do.

Styrofoam

At least 25 mm (1”) extruded polystyrene Styrofoam “SM”

Have enough to cover the outside walls of your Aquarium.

Coroplast

Enough to cover the top of your aquarium. Acts as a custom fit lid/cover for your aquarium.
