Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How many students are accepted into Connect Charter school each year?

At present, we intake 104 students into Grade 4 each year. There are 4 classes of 26 students in every grade. We are continuing to look for opportunities to grow to additional campuses.

When do applications open?

To apply for grade 4 entry, you must submit an application between January 1-10 of your child’s grade 3 year. To join the waitlists for other grades, or to join the grade 4 waitlist after the lottery deadline, please submit an Expression of Interest. Please visit our How to Apply page and follow the link according to your student’s grade.

I have submitted an Expression of Interest for my student. What do I do now?

That’s all you need to do! If your student is grade 3 or younger, you will need to apply for the lottery in their grade 3 year. Submitting an Expression of Interest in advance will allow us to send you a courtesy reminder. However, it is your responsibility to complete the lottery application at the correct time.

If your student is in grades 5-9, we will reach out should a placement opportunity become available.

We recommend adding PowerSchool to your safe senders list to ensure no emails regarding placement opportunities are missed.

How do I know if you received my Expression of Interest / lottery application?

Upon a successful application, you will receive a confirmation email from PowerSchool. Please check your junk/spam folders if you don’t see this in your inbox. We strongly recommend adding PowerSchool to your safe senders list so that you don’t miss any time sensitive emails from us.

I completed an Expression of Interest for my student, but they weren’t offered a spot this year. Do I need to reapply for the next grade?

No, our waitlists roll over each year and students maintain their waitlist spot for the next grade. There’s no need to reapply.

Do you accept applications from students with learning challenges?

Yes. Part of our application process requires you to upload relevant documents related to this (IPPs, assessments, etc) which our senior administration team and learning coordinator then review. If they have any concerns about our school’s ability to meet your student’s needs, they would request a meeting with you to discuss this in more detail.

Is priority given to students applying within the Lakeview community?

No. Your location does not affect the admissions or waitlist process. Unlike the CBE or CSSD school boards, Charters do not have catchment areas and are intended to be accessible to students across the city.

Do you have plans to expand?

Absolutely! We are actively seeking expansion opportunities. If you have completed an Expression of Interest, we will email you when we have updates to share.

What is your sibling policy?

If a student accepts a spot and has a sibling on the waitlist:

Once the student has completed the annual April registration process (including formal registration form and registration fees), the sibling may be moved to the sibling waitlist for the appropriate grade. Siblings must still wait for a spot to become available in the appropriate grade. Sibling waitlists are sorted in timestamp order.

Please ensure you are advising the office that you have a sibling on the waitlist. The sibling priority policy is available for the first enrolment opportunity only (please see the deferment question below).

I’ve been offered a placement but I’d like to defer it. Is that possible?

Unfortunately, no. Connect Charter School is a planned charter program that begins in grade 4 and the waitlists are designed for entry at the first eligible opportunity. Our program is in high demand with extensive waitlists, so it is always assumed that students are seeking placement as soon as eligible.

As such it is not possible to apply for a future waitlist or defer a placement opportunity for a later date. If a spot is refused, the student will be removed from the waitlist. You are welcome to then submit an Expression of Interest in order to re-enter the waitlist. This will give your student a new timestamp for the next placement opportunity.

Is it possible to visit the school for a tour?

We offer a student orientation and tour for incoming students as part of our registration process in June. This is for registered students only. There are typically no other tours outside of this. If you have completed an Expression of Interest and we hold an open house, you will be notified.

Does Connect offer before/after school childcare?

Connect Charter School does not offer before and after school programs. It would be the responsibility of the parents to secure this care. Full-time daycare addresses can be used for transportation planning. Please see point 9 of the Bussing FAQ for more information.
