Challenge Accepted: Helping Children Grow Through Challenge

How do children develop the confidence to say, “This is hard, but I can handle it?”

As children seek greater independence, parents face an ongoing question: When do I step in—and when do I step back?

Drawing on 15 years of working outdoors with children at Canmore Forest Play, we’ll explore how challenge, appropriate risk, outdoor experiences and child-led problem solving can build confidence, resilience, creativity and independence.

Expect stories, practical ideas and plenty to think about—including when helping becomes rescuing, how much challenge children really need, and how we can give them the space to struggle, take risks, make mistakes and discover what they’re capable of.

Our Playground 50/50 has passed $2,000 — can we double it?

The bigger the pot gets, the bigger the prize for one lucky winner and the more we raise toward our new playground!

🎟️ $5 = 1 ticket
🎟️ $10 = 3 tickets
🎟️ $20 = 8 tickets
🎟️ $40 = 20 tickets
🎟️ $75 = 50 tickets! (EFT payment option available)

Let’s see if we can get that pot to $4,000!

Tickets are cash only, but we’ve made it easy to grab yours — just pop into the office when you’re dropping off or picking up your child during the school day. We’d love to see you!

The winning ticket will be drawn October 19 at 10:00 a.m.
