End-of-Year Technology Procedures 19-20

Things are a little different at the end of the 2020-2021 school year, and that’s why we’re not recalling technology for most students. However, there is some important information to read.

Please select the scenario that represents your situation:

I'm not Returning to Connect (Grade 4-8)

(Grade 9s, who are all graduating from Connect, should read the next section) We will miss not having you at Connect next year! Students not returning to Connect for the 2020-2021 school year must return all of their technology and accessories to Connect. This includes iPads/MacBooks, chargers, Pencils/Crayons, and  other accessories such as headphones or external keyboards. The deadline for returning this technology is June 25, 2020 at 4:00 PM. Technology that is not returned will be remotely locked and billed at is replacement (new) value.

All families needing to return technology must confirm their drop off time at the link below (if you are unable to drop off your device due to a lack of vehicle, please make note in the form).

On drop off day:
› Add a sticky note and a piece of scotch tape for good measure to all of your devices and accessories with your full name, student ID number, and homeroom (OR put your items in a grocery bag and label CLEARLY with the same information)
› Drive up to the front doors at Connect – you may park in the bus zone temporarily
› Drop your device in the bin outside the IAC (main lobby) doors. This bin is supervised via security camera and emptied regularly.
› That’s it!

Graduating from Connect Connect (Grade 9) - Buying Out Device

Congratulations! We will miss you next year and wish you all the best. Students in Grade 9 who have bought out and paid for their device. We will release all purchased and paid for devices from Connect Charter School management at some point prior to June 22 at 9 AM.

You do not need to return the device to Connect once you have followed the procedure below.

During the last week of classes (approximately 45-120 minutes of downtime):
› Shut down the Mac
› Start up the Mac holding down the option key. At the password prompt, enter: inspire
›  Hold the Command key, and press the R key. This will boot into Recovery mode.
› If prompted, select the English language.
› From the Utilities menu at the top of the screen, select “Firmware Password Utility” or “Startup Security Utility”.
› Click Turn Off Firmware Password
› Enter: inspire
› Quit the utility
› Erase your disk (not your volume) by following the first set of steps on support.apple.com/en-ca/HT208496
› Reinstall macOS by following step 3 on support.apple.com/kb/HT204904
› All done – the device is no longer managed by Connect Charter.

Graduating from Connect Connect (Grade 9) - Not Buying Out

Congratulations! We will miss you next year and wish you all the best. Students in Grade 9 who have not bought out their MacBooks must return their devices to Connect. Returning to Connect (Grade 4-8 going to 5-9)

We look forward to seeing your next year. If anything changes over the summer, in addition to letting our office know, you must arrange the return of technology before the 2020-2021 school year.

There is absolutely no technology support over the summer – this includes software, and hardware. You can submit a ticket to be answered on our return. Students currently in Grade 4, 5, and 7, can access the AppleCare+ service through the Apple Store at Chinook Centre or Market Mall
-Parents should plan when, where, and how devices can be used over the summer with their child. Management controls may be implemented using Screen Time (iPad / macOS)
-Student in Grade 8 can upgrade to macOS Catalina by plugging in their MacBook, and in Self-Service running  the “Upgrade to macOS Catalina” option/package
