Good afternoon Connect Parents;
Despite the volume of snow that descended on us in April, we can safely (?) say we have entered spring. The grade 4’s (above) who spent the day at the Field Experience Center on Thursday were certainly taking advantage of the glorious spring warmth to connect with the land through an extended version of the animal game.
Electives are also in full swing…the Cycling YYC crew with Ms. Monteith in the lead are set to head out for a ride on the Weaselhead pathways Friday afternoon.
Our first overnight outdoor education trips are little over a month away and we are now able to share the camp schedule (below). It is our practice at Connect to meet with parents ahead of multi-day outdoor education trips to share itinerary details, risks and hazards, equipment lists, and other pertinent information. As all the trips for grades 4 to 8 will share the same destination and basic program, we will conduct a parent webinar on Wednesday May 25th at 6:30pm to share this information and answer questions. Each trip requires 8 parent volunteers per pod. If you wish to volunteer on your child’s trip and have a current security clearance check on file, please notify the homeroom teacher. In the event there are an over abundance of volunteers for any pod, names will be drawn from a hat to determine who will accompany the trip. Note that grade 9 students will not be going to the FEC for an overnight trip but will be going to Camp River’s Edge near Cremona on June 2-3 for a year end celebration.
Class Placement Requests
As the end of the school year comes into sight, it is natural for parents and students to begin wondering what class placements might look like for next year. Teachers have tremendous insight on student strengths, challenges, relationships, and their needs for social, emotional, and cognitive development. As such they are in the best position to determine class placements and are provided time in June for this purpose. Additionally, students are offered an opportunity to identify a few students they would be compatible with in order to satisfy the all important social connection. We receive many requests from parents regarding class placements as well, and while all such requests are reviewed and considered in the development of class lists, the final decisions on student placement will rest with school administration. A lot of time, effort, and careful consideration goes into the development of class lists and we appreciate the understanding of parents in respecting these procedures.
Admissions Lottery NOW OPEN LINK: connectcharter.ca
From April 15 to May 31, 2022, all parents may enter their grade 2 child’s name into the lottery through a link on the Connect website at www.connectcharter.ca
If you have a child whom you wish to be admitted to grade 4 in August 2023 and who has an older sibling currently enrolled at Connect, their name must still be entered in the lottery, however the filtering will automatically place siblings at the top of the admissions list.
The lottery will take place in June 2022 and parents will be notified of their child’s placement. Please share the lottery information with others who may be considering Connect as their choice of school for the critical middle years.
Information on the lottery process may be found at connectcharter.ca/how-to-register/
Student Pick Up During School Hours
If you need to pick up your child from school during school hours, please notify the office ahead of time by calling 403-282-2890 or emailing [email protected]. It helps with efficiency in dismissing children and reduces parent wait time upon pick up.

If you need to cancel your child’s fun lunch order on the day it is due to be delivered, please contact the Fun Lunch coordinators at [email protected] before 10am. The hard working fun lunch volunteers will also try to deliver lunches to siblings as an alternative when possible.
