Good afternoon Connect parents;
It is hard to believe that spring is just around the corner (according to the calendar, if not Mother Nature). Term 2 will be ending on Friday March 11th and report cards will be available in PowerSchool after 3pm on Monday March 14th. Virtual student-led conferences will take place on Thursday March 17th from 4:30-8pm and Friday March 18th from 8am to 1pm. Details on signing up for SLCs through Conference Manager will be included in next week’s update. We had considered trying to coordinate a hybrid version of SLCs to accommodate preferences for either virtual or in-person conferences. The logistics of this plan were very complex, given the short planning time and therefore we opted to leave this term’s SLCs in a Zoom format.
We also recognize just how vitally important it is to celebrate our school community and the resilience, patience, and understanding shown by our staff, students, and parents throughout the pandemic. Assuming that COVID-19 statistics continue to decline, we are planning a ‘Connect Our Community’ event for Thursday April 21st from 3:30 to 7pm. The school will be open to all registered Connect families. Displays of student work will highlight the journey of learning that has taken place this year and information kiosks will provide details on the essential pillars of our school: outdoor and experiential education, integration of technology, and inquiry-based learning. School Council, Parent Society, and representatives of the Connect Charter School Board of Directors will also be on hand to answer questions about their respective roles in supporting the school. Save the date – more details will be shared after Spring Break.
Admissions Lottery Update
Students entering grade 4 in August 2022 will be the last to be admitted from the waitlist. The waitlist will still be in effect for grades 5 through 9 until this cohort reaches grade 9, at which time the current waitlist will be completely eliminated. Students entering grade 4 in August of 2023, and who are therefore currently in grade 2, will enter a lottery to determine admission order. Information on the lottery process may be found at connectcharter.ca/registration-and-admissions/#lottery.
If you have a child whom you wish to be admitted to grade 4 in August 2023 and who has an older sibling currently enrolled at Connect, their name must still be entered in the lottery, however the filtering will automatically place siblings at the top of the admissions list.
From April 15 to May 31, 2022, any parents may enter their grade 2 child’s name into the lottery through a link on the Connect website at www.connectcharter.ca
The lottery will take place in June 2022 and parents will be notified of their child’s placement.
Note: our intake year is grade 4 only.
The lottery process is applicable only for grade 4 entry each year.
Parent Society and School Council
Parent Society AGM Tuesday Apr 19, 20226:30pm
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 19 when we will hold our Annual General Meeting for the Connect Charter Parent Society. We are in need of new directors for the 2022/2023 school year, and welcome parents or guardians from all grade levels. In the next two years, we will have six directors moving on from Connect, so we especially appreciate representation from younger grade levels.
The Parent Society is responsible for organizing all AGLC related fundraising (casinos, raffles) which accounts for approximately $45k every 18-24 months. These funds are used to purchase items for educational enrichment for all Connect students. Volunteering for Parent Society is a minimal time commitment, but has a huge impact on our school. Please consider getting involved. The Connect Charter Parent Society (CCPS) serves as a separate entity in parallel with the Connect Charter School Council at the direction of the Connect Charter School Board.

Easter Chocolate Fundraiser – 10 more days to order!
Our chocolate fundraiser with Purdys Chocolatier has been kicked off again in time for Spring and Easter – thanks to our supporters so far, we’re over $1,000 in sales to date. Connect earns up to 25% of our chocolate sales, so it is a great fundraiser for our school.

A friendly reminder that the deadline for cheque payment is March 16th, payment after this date is by credit card only. If you are paying by cheque for your order, please ensure your student(s) take the cheque to the office. All cheques should be made payable to Connect Charter School and in the memo please put Fun Lunch.

Saucy Bread Company will be fulfilling the order that was missed on Feb 11th. The delivery of your orders will be on March 17th. You don’t have to take any additional steps, your orders have already been placed and paid for.
