February 4, 2022 Parent Update

Good afternoon Connect parents;

The 50/50 raffle being sponsored by our Parent Society is currently at $4690, which means if the draw was held today the winner would take home $2345  Please share the raffle information with your friends, networks and across your social media platforms. Our goal is to reach $20,000 with a total prize of $10,000. Scan the QR code above or access the website at www.rafflebox.ca/raffle/ccps to purchase your tickets. Sales will end on February 16th and the draw will take place on February 17th. A huge thanks to our Parent Society executive for initiating the raffle and to everyone who has supported our school programs by purchasing tickets.

COVID-19 Update

We seem to be entering what could be a confusing phase of the pandemic, with case counts and hospitalizations still high amid speculation that some restrictions may soon be eased or eliminated. From the Connect perspective, our overall student absentee rates have remained relatively stable at about 11% (70 students) per day. Staff absence rates have also remained manageable and we have been able to provide coverage for all classes in the past week. We will continue to adhere to AHS health orders and restrictions until otherwise directed.

Parent Webinars

Thank you to everyone who participated in the ADHD/Executive Functioning webinar with Les Reddick on Wednesday evening. For those who were unable to attend, the webinar recording is available for viewing at drive.google.com/file/d/1M3o4TLSkcdRuVswNcBJi7Lcqh9MK6ray/view?usp=sharing. Based on the positive feedback and interest in this session, we will try to schedule a follow up webinar with Les in the spring. ADHD and Executive Functioning are large and complex topics that generate lots of important discussion and questions worth exploring. Our next parent webinar is tentatively scheduled for February 23rd with the Center for Sexuality presenting Supporting 2S/LGBTQ+ Youth: A Workshop for Family, Friends, and Parents. More details will be shared once we are able to confirm this session.

Winter Camps

Despite having to reschedule a few winter day camps due to cold weather, we have nearly completed one full rotation of field experiences that provides students with a day at the FEC to further explore the site and refine their snowshoeing and cross country skiing skills. We are currently looking at a further schedule for a second rotation of winter camp days to begin following the Family Day break and will share that with you once it is finalized.

I Love to Read Month
