Good afternoon Connect parents;
As many of you will already know from the flurry of emails this afternoon, we have made the extremely difficult decision to extend the grades 7-9 online learning format to include grades 4-6, effective Tuesday May 4th. As both grade 6 pods are currently in quarantine, this shift will have the greatest immediate impact on grade 4 and 5 students and families. We are acutely aware of the hardship on some parents trying to prepare for online learning while balancing work and other family commitments. As our superintendent, Chris Gilmour, explained in his earlier message, we are faced with some daunting operational challenges in terms of effectively covering classes when teachers are absent, and our unwavering commitment to do everything we can to keep your children and our staff safe and healthy led us to the conclusion that online learning will, in the short term, best meet the needs of our school community. Online learning will take effect on Tuesday May 4th. Parents of grade 4 and 5 students are encouraged to use your discretion in sending your child to school in person tomorrow. Teachers will be preparing for online learning and will be developing schedules for synchronous learning and creating Zoom links for students to access classes. If tomorrow is just too soon for you to be ready for your child to be in a learn from home situation, classes will still be in operation at the school. If you need to retrieve your child’s iPad and/or charger from the school, send an email to their homeroom teacher. All devices and important personal belongings that may need picking up will be available in the IAC with disinfectant wipes for your use.
Due to the shift to online learning, Camp Riveredge trips scheduled for the next two weeks are postponed. We will develop a revised schedule once we have determined if in-person classes will resume on May 17th.
Interest in our proposed ConnectFLEX hybrid learning program, scheduled for launch in the 2021-22 school year, is starting to gain traction. Promotional signs and advertising will be appearing throughout Calgary and the surrounding area over the next few weeks. If you know of anyone who would be interested in ConnectFLEX, have them visit the new website or contact us at [email protected].

Meat Sale Fundraiser
Orders will be picked up on Wednesday May 12th in the school parking lot.
A few pointers for a smooth pickup:
- Please bring your order sheet. It has been emailed to you.
- Pickup window is 3:45 – 4:30 pm
- To enter the parking lot, please approach the school northbound on 34th Street, turn right along the fence line in front of the school (Lewis Dr.) and then turn right going south into the alley towards the staff parking lot. Please do not try to get into the line from any other direction and be respectful of road and alley traffic flow.
- Please wait until the school busses have departed before attempting to line up.
Thank you again for helping us with a wonderful school fundraiser! We smashed it and raised over $8,200 for the school!
We do need some pickup day volunteers to help with unloading, order prep/sorting, and loading into vehicles. Start time is 2:30. If you are able to help, please email [email protected].

Summer Reading Ideas
To support our readers and their families over the summer, there will be a Virtual Book Fair from May 17-28. Stay at home and shop for summer books and activities, and get them delivered right to your door. Book Fair proceeds have helped us purchase novel study sets, extra copies of our favorite books, bulletin board supplies, and teacher resources.
Though the snow may still be flying, it’s not too soon to start making summer reading plans with your child:
