Good afternoon Connect parents;
I hope you have all enjoyed the Victoria Day long weekend and were able to get out and enjoy some fresh air as spring seems to have finally arrived. There is a lot going on at Connect as we enter the final weeks of this tumultuous 2019-20 school year. Undoubtedly a question on the minds of many of you is what school will look like for us when we start up again in the fall. We are closely monitoring developments and information from Alberta Education and Alberta Health Services. As new details are released we will keep you apprised of how the 2020-21 school year will begin. In collaboration with School Council executive, we are also preparing a parent survey to assess our response to the pandemic crisis, the effectiveness of Connected e-Learning, and to gain a sense of priorities and perspectives on future possibilities.
Due to the Victoria Day holiday the online teaching and learning schedule for May 19-22 is being adjusted as follows: Classes that would normally be scheduled for a Monday will be moved to Friday May 22nd. The schedules for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of that week remain the same. The regular schedule of online classes will resume on Monday May 29th.
Super Skills Challenge
We have a new challenge for you this week, the Super Skills Challenge. This is your opportunity to practice and improve your favourite sport-specific skill that could be showcased on the next highlight reel. This super skill can come from any of your favorite sports or physical activities. For example, this could be a skill from a major league sport (such as hockey, basketball, soccer, etc.), or it can be something different such as an amazing yoga pose, dance move, or circus trick; whatever you choose, have fun with it! You are more than welcome, and encouraged, to include your family and pets! Please submit your video clips that are 25 seconds or less to [email protected] and [email protected] by the end of the day on Friday, May 29th. Please make your videos as high definition as possible (to do this, send the largest version of the file).

Rules and considerations:
1. Ask your parents for permission on where you can practice and film your super skill.
2. Follow current social distancing guidelines set out by AHS.
3. Video submissions must be 25 seconds or less. (You may enter a second clip that is also 25 seconds or less if you have more than one sports skill you would like to showcase).
4. Always make safe choices and use proper safety equipment.
5. Have fun!
Grade 9 Tech Buyout
As a reminder, Grade 9 students and their families should have all now received an email with an important form to complete regardless of whether they intend to purchase (buy out) their computer or not. The buy out cost is $320. Devices not being purchased will need to be dropped off or picked up between June 24 and June 26, with more details to follow. This form is due back no later than Friday, May 22, at 3:30 PM, and should be filled out whether or not you intend to purchase the computer. Clem’s Garden Podcast – Episode 2
In this episode we speak to former Principal of Calgary Science School and creator of the Fort Steele History Lab, Mr. Ron Sweet. Ron talks about his work in outdoor education and his thoughts on technology and rekindling children’s relationship with the natural world. Ron is joined by his favourite companion, his guitar, and along with his grandson Aubrey, a grade 6 student at Connect recreate some of our favourite camp songs!
Students!! At your request, History Club is back! As always, on Tuesdays at lunch (from 12:15-12:45) we will share our love of the past as we dig into certain events to see what they can teach us. Come with questions and be ready to discuss the happenings of the past!
