March 20 Update

Good afternoon Connect Parents;

This will be the last update until near the end of spring break. I would like to once again offer reassurance that we are prepared (or as prepared as we can be under the circumstances) to begin e-learning on April 6th. Our teachers and support staff are ready, willing, and able to provide support to you and your child as needed. We will also be offering you ways to provide feedback so we can continually improve our online teaching and learning model. One idea under development is a grade by grade series of Zoom sessions for parents to address your questions and concerns, as well as share some of your successes and ‘aha’ moments. Stay tuned for more details…

Below are a few key points to reinforce as we head into the break:

Education Continuity Directive from Alberta Education

Please see the two pdfs with information from Alberta Education about Educational Continuity for the balance of the 2019/20 school year.

Social Distancing

I cannot stress enough the importance of adhering to the directive from the Chief Medical Health Officer to maintain social distancing as a significant measure in preventing the spread of COVID-19. Social and mainstream media have been rife with reports of people gathering for get-togethers, parties, and socializing. We must all do our part to thwart COVID-19 and it will take seemingly innocuous steps like social distancing to bring us back to a state of equilibrium. We understand the importance of connection for youth, and we have left all school devices enabled to encourage students to use their devices for online socializing while respecting the empowered use expectations.

Connect Hub

Please prompt your child (ren) to accept the invitation to join the Connect Hub. They will have received an email a few days ago with the invitation. If they did not receive it, please contact Mr. Cloutier at [email protected] for assistance.

 Lightening Things Up a Bit

This is just too good not to share…please see the humour in this…we all need to keep finding reasons to laugh…

I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone in our parent community who has taken the time to drop me a note acknowledging the efforts of our staff as we work through the uncertainty and…to call it what it  is…chaos… of the last few weeks. I shared several of the comments with staff in an update today; I know they will be so appreciative as well. I am looking forward to connecting with all of you soon.

Thank you and stay well,

Phil Butterfield
