March 16 Parent Update

Good afternoon Connect parents;

As we enter a new phase in the ever changing world of COVID-19, I would first of all like to extend my thanks to all of you for your understanding and cooperation as circumstances alter course frequently. The cancellation of classes by AHS presents challenges and opportunities as we explore new strategies to support student learning and keep the spirit of inquiry alive within a new educational environment. Given that spring break is only a few days away, we will use this week to begin introducing students to some of the tools they will be able to access to continue learning for as long as classes remain cancelled. The e-learning plan will be more fully implemented when we return from spring break on April 6th and you will receive details as we get closer to that time. It is a little too speculative to share those details now, only to have things change over the break.

Here are a few highlights from today and a look at the days ahead…

  • Teachers reached out to students today by email or video to establish a connection and begin the process of identifying a ‘new normal’ in the way teachers and students will communicate. If your child did not receive any communication from their homeroom teacher, please notify me by return email and we will try to determine a reason and solution from this end.
  • If your child did not bring home their device last Friday, you may pick it up in the IAC between 8:30am and 4pm Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. You may also retrieve any belongings from their locker at that time. In order to come into the school you must be symptom free and we ask that you exercise social distancing and proper respiratory etiquette while in the building.
  • Student-led Conferences, scheduled for Thursday evening and Friday, are POSTPONED until after spring break. Details of the timing and format will be shared when we return from break.
  • If you have any limitations on Internet access or email connectivity, please let me know by return email and we will find an alternate way to provide learning resources for your child.

I will continue to provide updates by email to our school community as new information becomes available. Those updates will also be posted at this link:
