Accountability Pillar Surveys

Alberta Education has mailed out surveys to all parents. These survey results are important to the school administration as a feedback mechanism and for future planning. You will have the choice of completing a paper version of the survey or accessing it on line at public.education.alberta.ca/apos/.  Please contact Dr. Butterfield at [email protected] if you have any questions or require clarification.

Article Series and Website Updates

You will have noticed that these weekly updates are now posted and archived on the website (connectcharter.ca/weekly-updates/). I invite you to explore the updated website to see the exceptional work happening at our school.

Today’s highlighted article is a profile of the Peer Mentoring program at Connect Charter School. Please take a few minutes to read about this valuable and unique program at our school.

I will also direct you to the Clubs and Extracurriculars page on the website. Thank you to our hard-working staff for providing these opportunities for Connect students.

New Parent Information Session – Tuesday January 28th  6:30pm

An information session for prospective new parents will take place on Tuesday January 28th at 6:30pm in the gym. Current parents who have younger children entering grade 4 are encouraged to attend as some information pertinent to grade 4 may have changed. It is also an opportunity to begin getting to know parents who may be new to the school and who may have questions best answered by current parents. Tours of the school for prospective students will be conducted by current grade 4 students while the information session is underway.

The staff from Central will go through the registration and course selection process and be available to answer questions. PD/Non-Instructional Day

A reminder that Friday January 31st is a Professional Development day for staff and is therefore a non-instructional day for students.

Extended Family Day weekend

A reminder that the school will be closed on February 12, 13, and 14 for our staff retreat to focus on the development of a new report card and further refine our approaches to inclusive education. The school will also be closed on February 17 for Family Day.

Tentative School Calendar for 2012-2022

The Board of Directors has approved the tentative 2012-22 school calendar and it is available for viewing on the website at connectcharter.ca/calendar/. Please note that this calendar is subject to change prior to final approval by the Board in December 2020.

Student Coding Program

A parent passed this program opportunity along. Please note this is not a school sponsored activity: Attention to coders and want to be coders in middle school (grades 6-9). My friend’s high school aged son (really nice kid and super smart) and his team have been working on this FREE all day workshop aimed at Middle School kids. No experience necessary. He is passionate about computers, coding and robotics. He has described this session as a mix of things he learned in middle school and things that he wished he had learned in middle in school in terms of coding.
